How much power and knowledge is within you? The answer, I feel, is ‘Limitless’. O Sensei, Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido, a man I admire with all my heart and whose teachings I have incorporated into my own life through over 15 years of training in Aikido. I owe much in my life to the man depicted, without ever having met him, only finding out through the teachings of my own Sensei and through the many books devoted to the art of Aikido. I could go on for many hours and paragraphs about my Aikido, but that is for another site! This piece was created to be a gift to my Sensei, for all that he has given to me throughout my years with the Gowerton Ki-Aikido Society (http://www.aikidowill.freewebs.com). I began training with Sensei Peter Roberts, when he was a 1st Dan (he is now a 6th Dan) and remained with the club up until my departure for Canada in 2011. He guided me through all of my gradings, up to 3rd Dan, inducted me as an instructor in the club and is above all, a very good friend. Again, I could continue to write about all that this painting means to me, but I feel I can keep that for direct questions, so long as you have a few hours or days to spare!
For this painting I over reduced some medium grey createx acrylic, using my Iwata HP-C and HP-AH brushes. The canvas is 24″ x 24″. The script on the right reads Ai-Ki-Do, ‘The Way of harmony with the Spirit’. The script is actually O Sensei’s own calligraphy, borrowed from one of my many books on the art.
Limited Edition Print runs are limited to 100 on Canvas and 295 on heavy Art Paper. Each limited edition print is signed by the Artist and includes an authenticity document.
