In December 2012, Izzy and I welcomed a new arrival into our home, a gorgeous, orange tabby Maine Coon kitten. This little, furry bundle of love is now known as Haruki, a Japanese name which can be translated to clear radiant sunshine or energy. Our little ball of energy causes us much laughter and joy and this painting was created in his honour, to remind us of the day we collected him. The process was a very enjoyable one as Haruki sat on my painting chair behind me, purring along with my airbrush. It made colour matching very easy, although it cause some of the strangest behaviour I have ever seen in a cat! After the first 2 passes of base colours for the fur, Haruki became very, very wary of my studio. He would not enter unless one of us was present, all the while with eyes fixed intently on the painting. Then again, I suppose a 5 times size effigy of yourself appearing in the room would cause a strange reaction too!
This painting was completed in spring 2013. It is 24″ by 30″ and is airbrushed acrylic on canvas.
